ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in Ann Arbor, MI, Steven Samuels began his creative development watching and learning from his father, an Industrial Designer, working in his basement studio. Within 2 generations, Samuels’ bloodline includes a textile designer, a painter, an inventor, a Singer sewing machine repairman, an entrepreneur and an Industrial Designer and educator. From a young age he learned to draw. “My dad had a drafting table and office. Adjacent to his work space was mine; a small drafting table which I still use, only then it was covered with disassembled clocks, Legos, watercolors and various mechanical parts. This was my playground.” This curiosity is evident in his work as he merges material and technology into products and images.
